Tyrod Taylor May Not Be Mr. Right, But He Should Be Mr. Right Now
The Bills are in a situation with Tyrod Taylor that is familiar to many people. They have been in a committed relationship with their quarterback for two years and have had their ups and downs. There have been moments where the Bills thought that Tyrod would be the gentleman that they always wanted and needed to lead their team. There were other moments though that Taylor would forget to call or wouldn't tell the team how pretty they looked when they got dressed up for a night out on the town.
While Tyrod was not the charming prince that most teams dream of having at quarterback, he was better to the Bills than other quarterbacks were in their previous relationships. For example, Kyle Orton and his mustache decided to walk away from the team after a promising start to their relationship in 2014. The Bills are used to not being treated well by their quarterbacks and now they are left wondering if they should just settle for Tyrod Taylor or move on. While not perfect, he has been an improvement over previous relationships and maybe they could continue to grow together.
If the Bills dump Tyrod Taylor now they will always be left to wonder what could have been. The Bills biggest playmakers have suffered several injuries over the past two seasons and have missed considerable time. Tyrod was left to try and impress Buffalo without all of their proper weapons on offense. If they walk away from this relationship with Taylor and he goes on to Denver, Cleveland, or even worse to New Jersey and ends up being successful it will crush Buffalo. The Bills will be forced to watch like a "super jelly" ex as their old quarterback blossoms in his new relationship right in front of their very eyes
Even worse is the fact that the Bills don't exactly have their next relationship lined up. Cardale Jones is on the roster but he's still too immature for their taste at the moment for a starting quarterback. EJ Manuel has broken their heart one too many times for them to give him another shot. There aren't a lot of single good looking prospects on the market this offseason either. They could pursue Tony Romo but he's a bit too old and has health concerns. With the new guys on the scene in the draft there isn't a clear "king of the prom" that the Bills would want to pursue to lead their team at quarterback right away.
The fact of the matter remains that Buffalo is not in a great position right now in their dating life with quarterbacks. The best bet for the team is to recommit themselves to Tyrod Taylor who has been better than Matt Cassel, EJ Manuel, Kyle Orton, Thad Lewis, Jeff Tuel, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Trent Edwards, Brian Brohm, J.P. Losman, Kelly Holcomb, Drew Bledsoe, Alex Van Pelt, Rob Johnson and Doug Flutie have been to them.
Giving Tyrod Taylor another shot under a new coach with an expensive but affordable contract is the best thing to do for their romantic lives. If things don't work out with Taylor over that contract they already have another prospect lined up on the roster a la Cardale Jones who should be mature enough to be their man at that point. The Bills still aren't sure if Tyrod Taylor is "Mr. Right" for them but he should be "Mr. Right Now".
