Week 10: Picture Recap
BUF 22 - NYJ 17
Wow that was a close call last night. It was a defensive battle with way too many punts and three and outs for both teams. The Bills offense was largely inept for most of the game and the Jets got pressure on Tyrod Taylor all night which helped them limit the Bills offense. The Bills were able to capitalize on one of the four Jets turnovers of the night when Duke Williams scored a touchdown after recovering a fumble on the kickoff by Devin Smith. This gave the Bills a 9-3 lead since Carpenter missed the extra point. The Bills would add another field goal and go into half up 12-3.
The Bills opened up the second half with their best drive of the night going 80 yards on seven plays. The drive was capped off with a 26 yard catch by Karlos Williams putting the Bills up 19-3. They added another field goal after a fumble by Chris Ivory on the Jets making the score 22-3.
The Jets scratched and clawed their way back with two touchdown passed by Ryan Fitzpatrick making the score 22-17. The Bills got the ball back and were unable to move it up the field. While trying to punt the ball the snap was not handled cleanly by Colton Schmidt and he had to eat the ball and take the sack on 4th down. This gave the ball to the Jets on the Bills 13 yard line and a touchdown would have put the Jets ahead in the game.
It was starting to feel like one of the many nights in the past that the Bills would lose a prime time football game by making some unthinkable mistakes late in the game while leading. Luckily they were playing the Jets who have an equally troubled history. The Bills defense was able to make a big stop partially helped by poor play calling by the Jets. The Bills were able to escape the Meadowlands with a 22-17 victory moving Buffalo into the 5th spot in the AFC playoff race. It wasn't a pretty game but a win is a win and this win was pivotal to increasing the Bills postseason chances.
